Conversion Story:

[The British Christian who became a Lahore Ahmadi Muslim (25-year-old male) on 19th April 2001]

Dear Webmaster,
As-Salam-o-Alaikum,

My name is PN and I was raised by parents who were at that time Agnostic (neither believing nor disbelieving in God) and as a child my main religious influence was from my Catholic grandparents. I cannot remember a period in my life when I did not believe in God in one way or another, but it was not until my mid-teens that I felt that I needed to search for the truth of religion. It was not until about three years ago that I really looked into Islam and what it was about. I bought quite a few books on Islam and found that this was the religion that I had been looking for all that time.

The more I read of Islam the more I felt certain in my heart that it is the solution to mankind's problems and God's revealed religion. Gradually over a period of time, I gave up those parts of my lifestyle that were incompatible with Islam, such as drinking alcohol, etc., and I started to pray five times a day (though I did this in English as I have only recently started to learn how to perform the salat [Muslim-prayer] properly) [Note from the Webmaster: In one of his e-mails, he writes, "I am finding the audio feature on the website's 'How to Perform Salat' page very helpful."], but I felt held back from becoming a Muslim as I found it very difficult to decide which particular group had what that felt the truest Islam. I would search the Web for Islamic information and I found the viewpoints of many different Muslim groups appealing, though none of them seemed to totally tie in with what I instinctively felt. The Sunni Muslims seemed the most likely choice, but often I would read of things where Sunni experts sometimes seemed to elevate the Hadith over the Quran. Many of the other Muslim groups also appealed to me, but something held me back from joining them.

All this time I never considered the Ahmadiyya Movement, as the little I knew of it was inaccurate and concerned the Qadianis, not the Lahore Ahmadiyya Movement. Then by chance I looked at one of the Lahore Ahmadiyya websites, not expecting anything good, and to my surprise this was the strand of Islam that I had been looking for over the past three years and many of the articles on the website confirmed things I had instinctively felt from reading books from diverse Islamic attitudes. That day, I stayed up well into the night reading through the website and the Lahore Ahmadiyya websites and I found only things that confirmed to me that I had found what I had been looking for. When I read the biography of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmed, it became clear to me that he was a very devout and honest man and that his relationship with Allah had always been the centre of his life. After a few days thinking it over, I decided that I certainly wanted to join the Lahore Ahmadiyya Movement and I thank Allah for guiding me towards righteousness.
