Summary of Tohfaa-i-Baghdad:
July 1893

Published in July 1893, Tohfaa-i-Baghdad was written in response to an Arabic letter from a man in the Deccan Hyderabad named Syed Abdur Razzaq Qadri of Baghdad, in which he attacked Hazrat Mirza Sahib and declared him as dajjal (anti-Christ), misguided and worthy of being put to death. All this was probably written at the instigation of the Indian Maulvis [Clerics]. Hazrat Mirza Sahib widely published in the Arabic world the book written in reply to this hostile letter, so that his message would reach their people and they could also benefit from it. This book contains a masterly exposition on the death and second coming of Christ and the finality of Prophethood of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and the blessings of Allah be upon him). Hazrat Mirza Sahib has also presented his claims in a very rational manner, well-supported by arguments, and proved that pious men of this Ummah [Islamic Nation] are still blessed with revelation from Allah, the Most High, and reformers (mujaddids) are ordained in every century for the revival of the faith. He has urged the man not to be deceived by the vicious propaganda of the Maulvis, but to come to him personally and observe him closely to be able to discern between truth and falsehood. At the end, Hazrat Mirza Sahib has written a poignant Arabic prayer in verse form, which is expressive of his heartfelt pain at the plight of his people.
